GPIP – General practice improvement plan
Run by NHS England, to work toward general practice improvement plan. We have been allocated an Ex CQC inspector call Pam Baxter. We are looking at our process throughout the practice. We have already done some work, in January we will be introducing the new Qof process for long term conditions, we have promoted inhouse to allow for extra appointments to allow for this. Patients will be sent a text link for them to be able to book in to specific clinics just like the flu clinics. For those that cannot access this because they do not use a mobile phone or online appointments the recalls team will still contact them via phone or letter, but by sending the bulk texts it should mean that all patients are recalled for their annual review.
We are looking at increasing social media, to get information to patients as soon as possible. It was suggested that we email Lee with the information so that he can pass this onto the wider community.
Prescriptions
We are still going to offer the telephone for medication, you can now do this 10am-12pm each day. We have found this has gone well with patients. PPG member has said that on the repeat prescription it does say “no repeat prescriptions over the phone” Lorna is going to look into this. The face to face at the minute we are open 10.30 – 5pm. Our idea is to look at closing the prescription window, but to put the prescription clerk onto the front desk. We are looking a efficiencies throughout the surgery.
Shortage of medication and supply chain issues. Brigitte has set up communication with the pharmacy .
Queuing outside of the surgery
We need to move appointments from on the same day, as not everyone needs them on the same day. Pam from NHS England has a meeting with the partners on the 8th Jan, to look at a different way to offer appointments. Therefore, we are encouraging looking at booking most appointments over the phone/accurx, but there would be an option if you have no other ways. We will know what the rotas will look like after the meeting with the partners. We have needed this change for quite a long time.
Advertise that if you stand in this queue, you will not be guaranteed a same day appointment.
Newsletter for patients – We are going to put these up in the surgery and advertise these on social media.
Triage patients – duty doctors, all receptionists have been asked to triage patient to make sure all patients are put into the correct appointments. Emergency appointments have to fit into the five-point criteria.
Out of hours appointments – PICS – We still offer these appointment, open Wed,Thur am and Friday PM. We also have Saturday appointments. We only book Oakwood/Bull farm patients into our practice. A reminder will be sent to the reception staff to offer these appointments.
DNA process – If someone misses two appointments within 6 months, if then another appointment is missed its then looked at with Dr DeSilva to see what needs to happen. We have de-registered some patient’s due to this. We will add the figures in the newsletters. It’s costing us £42 10 minutes for each missed GP appointment.
January assistance to register SMS Number & Consent
We are going to do some work with communicating with our patient, and we are looking at spending some time in collating this information.
Funding- more GPs?
As part of the GPIP we do get funding, Dr Sidaway has highlighted that there is always going to be GP sickness. CPD training has been left to the end of the year, where we have been ended up with only 3-4 GP where it has left us short. Next year we are looking to review this for next year. Dr DeSilva is looking at recruiting new GP. Through the mid Notts place based partnership, health and equality fund (HIFF). They have some clinical leads Dr Malik from Orchard who has received some funding for our area. This is for loneliness and isolation. A group make a start Mansfield has been put into place. Meadows centre at slant lane will be offering a taster. Transport will be included.
Recruitment Update
Dr Enamino works Wed, Thur and Friday has now joined the practice.
We have new registrar Dr Thavaku
We have 3 x full time receptionists joining the surgery from 3rd January 2025- one of these is an apprentice
AOB
Lesley is going to be the chair, everyone voted her in.
Flu clinics 1700 patients– (Lesley, Peter and John), couple of observations, Covid uptake is low. We have quite a lot of people have a lot of mobility issues. Looking at these people to be able to come through the front door. Lesley and John did a good job of triaging where they could send patients. Struggling to book Covid appointments online. Bull farm drop-in flu clinics were poorly advertised. It was felt that communication was poor where you can get your flu vaccinations from. Concerns about messages from NHS England requesting patients to book in for Flu and Covid vaccinations.
It was felt that it was very will organised and the flow of the patients were excellent.
Appropriate Appointments audit- explained what this was.
Pharmacy team – A big thank you to the team particularly Rebecca, from John as they have investigated his wife’s medication and sorted out her aside effects.
Thursday 13th Feb, next meeting @ 13:00
