Children aged between 2 and 4 years (birth dates between 1st September 2017 - 31st August 2019) are now eligible to have their nasal flu vaccination at the surgery. A supplier to the NHS has advised us of a global shortage of some equipment used for taking blood tests.
Anyone who needs a test for urgent health problems will still get one, but where your Clinician recommends that it’s safe to do so, then you may be asked to come back for a test at a later date, or your appointment may be rescheduled.
Given the nature of the shortage, we cannot give an exact date for when the test will be rescheduled, but please be assured that if your condition or symptoms require it, then you will get a test, and we will be re-booking your test when supplies become more easily available.
If your condition or symptoms change or get worse, please contact the NHS as you would normally.

Due to a high level of incoming phone calls we are experiencing some techical issues whereby incoming calls are being cut off. Our techical team is working to try to rectify this problem. Please bear with us whilst we try to address the issues.
If you are booked into a face to face appointment with the GP, please bear in mind that this is a 10 minute appointment; therefore the GP will only be able to discuss 1 problem with you.
If you have multiple issues you would like to discuss please inform the receptionist who will look at making you a longer length appointment.
Understanding General Practice
Following negative and damaging coverage about general practice in the media, our Chief Executive Michael Wright, has produced a video to help patients understand some of the unique challenges that practices face daily.
If you are eligible for a Covid Vaccine you can book an appointment for your vaccination using the online National Booking Service; you can access the website here or ring 119 option 2.
If you require transport please inform staff at the time of booking or contact the Surgery. Please select the link for further Transport information.
Oakwood Surgery will have clinics available to book for the coronavirus although these may not be a daily occurence.
We are using the Astra Zeneca vaccine. A few patients have expressed concerns after media reports. We would like to reassure you about this.
There have been a few rare instances of specific type of blood clots and clotting issues (37 cases per 17 million) and the Medicines Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) continues to advise that the benefits of the vaccine far out weighs the risks. This is much smaller than the risk of a blood clot (less than 1 in a million) in the healthy population.
If you need confirmation that you have received 2 vaccinations for international travel you can check your vaccination status on the NHS App.
If you do not have access to online services you can request a paper letter from the NHS by calling 119 once you have received 2 vaccines; please only request this letter after at least 5 days after your 2nd vaccine. (It may take 7 working days for the letter to arrive).
You CANNOT request a letter from your GP practice.
