Routine consultations are by appointment only for which we offer 10-minute appointments. The majority of appointments available are "book on the day" appointments (as requested by our patients) and are available Monday, Tuesday and Thursday from 8.30am to 7.00pm, Friday from 8.30am to 6.30pm and Wednesday from 8.30am to 12 noon and 3.15pm - 6.00pm. We offer pre-bookable appointments up to a month in advance in the early morning on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday and late evening Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, with appointments up to 8pm on a Friday.
To Speak To A Doctor
The Doctors are happy to discuss problems with you over the phone. For routine advice, patients can pre book a telephone consultation. The Doctor will ring you back to discuss your concerns therefore we will need to take a suitable contact telephone number so that the Doctor can call you back. It would help to give the Receptionist an idea of what the problem is.
Extended Access to Appointments
The practice works with other local surgeries to offer weekend appointments. Saturday mornings appointments are available between 8.30am - 12.30pm and this is by rota with other local surgeries. Therefore these appointments may not be at Oakwood Surgery but at another local practice.
Some appointments are available to book on Sundays and Bank Holidays - please ask the reception of details and location of these appointments.
Late Evening Appointments
The Practice offers late evening appointments with the Doctor on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday evenings up to 7.00pm; Friday up to 8pm Please note that these are pre-booked routine appointments only.
One Problem Clinic
These appointments will be shorter (5 Minutes only) to deal with one problem only. These are pre-bookable appointments up to 4 weeks in advance.
Problems covered during this clinic can be:
- Urinary Tract Infections (UTI’s)
- Acne / Skin lesion
- One painful joint
- Sore/blocked ears
- Sore/red eye
- Sore throat
- Lumps and bumps
- Pill Check
Important information to prevent frustrations and correct use of clinic:
- Appointments will only be for 5 minutes and no longer.
- Only one problem will be covered in the appointment, any other problems raised (unless an emergency) will require a further appointment.
- No double appointments in this clinic will be allowed.
- When booking the reception staff will ask for the reason. This is to ensure you are being booked into the correct clinic, so you get the appropriate appointment and care.
For an urgent appointment please call at or telephone the surgery at 8.30am. Urgent problems will be seen as soon as possible on the same day, usually by the Duty Doctor.
Nurse & Health Care Assistant Appointments
Appointments are available from 8.30am through to 7.00pm most days except Wednesday when they are only available until 12 noon.

When phoning the surgery you will be greeted by a message: Welcome to Oakwood Surgery. Please note calls are recorded. Listen carefully and please select from one of the following options or you may hold for the operator:

|Press 3 To cancel an appointment
|Press 4 For prescriptions queries only, we no longer take requests for scripts by phone

SMS Text Messages
Reminders and Contact by Text Message.
If you give your mobile number to us, we will ask you to give consent to receive text messages from Oakwood Surgery for appointment reminders and results, information etc. You can cancel the text messaging facility at any time by informing the surgery. Please advise the practice if your mobile number changes.

Please do not turn up after 10.30am or 5.30pm unless you have an appointment or it is an emergency. Please keep your appointment. If you cannot, please tell the practice staff in good time so that another patient can be offered your appointment.
If there is more than one member of the family who needs to be seen, we may ask you to make another appointment. Appointments are administered by the Receptionists according to the Doctors’ instructions. Most of the time we are flexible, but when problems arise from time to time please try to be patient. If there are delays we will offer you an explanation.
We will treat everyone on an individual basis, irrespective of their ethnic origin or religious or cultural beliefs, sex or age.
If you are unable to attend for your appointment you must call and cancel it. This can be done 24 hours per day by calling our dedicated cancellation line number 01623 435551 or by texting back "cancel" to your text message reminder of your appointment. We have a policy for patients who do not attend their appointments and, following letters of warning, this may result in you being removed from the practice.
